Pawson Foundation August 2005 The Pawson Foundation (PFB), which has been active since March of 1994, is an American technology firm which develops innovative products and equipment that are advanced technology for power, remote controls and other industrial applications. The PFB works primarily in its laboratory facility at the University of Michigan, as a whole. When Pawson founded PFB, his family moved over to Michigan from the Midwest and he began working at the company in the early ’90s. He was joined and supervised by William DeGunn and began working on a very large number of engineering projects at PFB. Under DeGunn’s supervision with the firm, he developed microprocessor programs for the semiconductor industry, invented microprocessors and developed features, such as the ability to control the temperature of silicon. Pawson was born in Fort Wayne in 1883 and since 1890 he had worked for a number of corporations, one of them, in various industries. He was then a member of Michigan’s National Assembly for the years 1894–1910, and President from 1914 to 1915. In 1932, Pawson married his first wife, Evelyn Hudson Petrie, to Alice Roberts Pawson, and, in 1933, they moved to Chicago, Illinois. During the time, he read and studied chemistry and applied mathematics, both at Bell University. While studying at Bell, Pawson returned to Michigan and later bought Morningside in Michigan from Yale University. PFB, like other Pawson research, was a small company, but he soon joined the firm and moved up the business, starting with Bell Labs, to Morningside, Michigan, a four-story building that he says was the first one he would build. He then started a factory at his old plant in Lansing, Michigan and moved the company out to Ohio, and continued to work at Morningside and in Michigan until his death in 1962.
